mmmm... is a group of performers who can appear anywhere and anytime. They smash the reality with crazy ideas. If they caught you by surprise with one of their actions, you won't believe what is happening.

mmmm… An action group integrated by Alberto Alarcón, Emilio Alarcón, Ciro Márquez, Eva Salmerón and a lot of collaborators. Created in 1998 and based in Madrid.  Some “criminal records”:

Electro party.
December 98. Duration: 7 hours. 2 days. Location: Interstate party. Madrid.
A bed in the middle of the dance floor. An actor in pyjamas gets in and turns off the lamp on the bedside table. After a while, he gets up, goes over to the DJ and asks him to turn down the music because he can't sleep. A girl gets in the bed… some of the crowd go over to give him a beating… another man wearing only underpants gets in and goes to sleep… DJ Mmmm… competes with the real DJ by offering the alternative of listening to emptiness, his ear held to a glass.

Christmas outrage.
Date: January 5, 99. Time: 09:15 p.m. An hour after the Three Kings Parade. Location: Callao. Madrid.
We display a 3 m. wide banner with the slogan: THE THREE KINGS DO NOT EXIST. We almost get lynched: "You were a child once, weren't you!"... "You are killing hopes"... "Why are you doing this?"... "What are you trying to say?"... An old man applauds, ladies insult us. So much tension exploded around us that we stayed for just 10 minutes.

February 99. Duration: 2 hours. Location: International Contemporary Art Fair. Ifema. Madrid.
Using an easel, canvas, oils and a stool. In front of an abstract painting. Visitors look first at the copy, then the original, the copy, the original, and can't believe their eyes. Confused comments are heard: it's the painter who is painting a picture...

Uterus 2000
New Year's Eve 2000. Duration: all night. Location: Warehouse in Tetuán neighbourhood. Madrid.
A giant uterus is constructed in the middle of an inhospitable warehouse. A very comfortable and cosy capsule is created using 300 m2 of red carpet. To access this round room one must pass through a fissure similar to a crotch. 1960's-2100 style. Illuminated from outside with an intense, latent red light. By the end of the night nobody wanted to leave. "We don't want to be born!" they told us. "Premature birth!" we replied.

Action in a skip.
March 00. Duration: 1 hour. Location: Argüelles neighbourhood. Madrid.
A tanker fills an empty skip with water. A man in swimming trunks appears on the pavement with a towel over his shoulder and a pair of goggles. He gets into the container and starts swimming. Pedestrians pass by astonished. Some of them stop to watch. People begin to crowd the place. The locals look out of their windows. A bus stops alongside the skip and the passengers look on bemused. "Why is he doing that?" they keep asking. The man stops swimming, gets out of the skip, dries himself and walks away, the towel over his shoulder.

Artificial death (Amazon Virus).
September 00. Project presented for the Artificial Life 3.0 Competition sponsored by Telefónica Foundation.
Amazon virus deactivates the pixels of the monitors of infected on-line computers at the same rate as the rain forests of the Amazon are destroyed. In this way, the artificial death of the Amazon has intimate, personal repercussions as it affects the end-user's on-line terminal. The virus calculates the rate of deforestation, analysing images captured by Landsat 7 satellite with a custom-made software. The virus server translates that proportion into pixels on a computer monitor, updating their deactivation each time the infected terminal goes on-line. The virus is spread by an e-mail entitled, "You have forgotten me", with the body text, "I send you something to remember me", and an executable file called "Me".
