The newly opened Espai Tactel in Valencia receives his second exhibition. On this occasion the protagonist are their own creators and directors, Ismael Chappaz (1982, Valencia) and Juan Menero (1982, Castellón) as Tactelgraphics who held his first solo show in Valencia. Preceded by two solo shows at Cosmo and Miscelänea galleries, the past year in Barcelona.

Their collaborative work as a duo, provides a remote viewing of conventions, whether institutional, social or sexual. Through its dreamlike images they explore a universe populated with colorful prints, furtive visions and selective memories. In addition to his purely artistic work, Tactelgraphics are also a graphic studio on the border between art and design. The exhibition at Espai Tactel presents three series of photography (Vanished, La poursuite du bonheur and La Piscine) and two series of illustration (Powerline and Black Refuge). Here you can see a preview, or the next Friday, June 10 you will be able to attend to the opening in C/ Denia 25-B in the District of Ruzafa, Valencia (Spain).

Yes! Cyriak Harris again on our homepage... Don't be surprised if we celebrate with every new video released by this mad genius. If several months ago we already talked about him, now we present his new work for Hooray For Earth. Honestly, Cyriak's video works could be considered pure art, instead mere music videoclips. And if you don't believe us, just check out and let yourself be impressed with the following video... Beware! Perhaps your brain would feel cubefied afterwards...

2011-06-07 : THEY SPREAD

As you may know, the new Belio: They Live, We Rise is a special edition, limited to 1000 copies. But also the new Belio has been conceived as something more than just another publication, an artistic and global protest. Dear readers, collaborators and infinite players, we invite you to take part in this game:

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
  1. Purchase your copy of They Live, We Rise (place your order sending an e.mail to store@beliomagazine.com or download it here).
  2. Walk around the streets of your city while holding it, enjoy reading it in a public place, even traveling with it on your next vacation to another country or city. Just: Spread the virus!
  3. Take photos of these beautiful surreal scenes with you and / or your friends enjoying this Belio among a sleepy and lobotomized society.
  4. Send us the photos of your actions by e.mail. The pictures must be 800 x 642 pixels aprox., black & white color, JPG files. You can send your submissions to info@beliomagazine.com

The photos received will be part of a collection that will be published on our website. The aim of this project is to create time-space areas for reflection. An action to demonstrate that we are not mere pawns in a chess game led by governments, banks and large companies but people capable of generating our own ideas, to claim our rights and our freedom and re-invent the rules of the game. We encourage you to take part in this action, individually and spontaneously (a surprise is always the best attack) or collectively, taking part (Belio in hand) in the protests and campings that are happening in different cities around the world.

The first 15 Infinite Players to send us a collection (10 photos in different places / situations) with their participation in this protest action, will receive a special reward: an original artwork limited to 15 copies, created exclusively for this project.

On 15 May at the center of Madrid and during the demonstration for a Real Democracy NOW!, some of our most loyal readers were pleased to see and enjoy the new issue of Belio. A new publication against inaction, passivity and sheepishness society we live in, a new release published with the aim of shaking consciences and inviting the readers to be part of an artistic act of protest.

The Live, We Rise is a special edition absolutely different in form to all our previous publications. To the surprise of many, our next Belio is a newspaper compromised with the social, economic and political situation today.

This is a physical and digital edition inspired by John Carpenter's movie They Live. A short of homage to the film in order to expose a conformist and lobotomized society. The design and content of the newspaper is based in one of the famous scene from the movie where the protagonist discovers the hidden messages in advertising and the media with the help of some special glasses. To read our newspaper, you won't need those glasses... But we have included in the pack a special 3D anaglyph glasses that you will need to read the online edition We Rise which can be downloaded for free in the links at the bottom, behind the cut. Everything is packed within a transparent PVC bag screenprinted and limited to 1000 units, that you can order directly to us by sending an e.mail to store@beliomagazine.com

We are taking some intense weeks of work. First we launched the new digital Belio:033, then on May the 15th we presented the edition ”They Live, We Rise” on the streets of Madrid and the last week we set up and open the ”Mexican Street Art” show with the artists Dhear, Saner, Seher and Sego.

The show will last until July the 3rd at the La Nau hall of The Escoxador Contemporary Culture Center (Elche - Alicante, Spain). We recommend you to go and see the show in live, as it is a great experience to see these works at their real size. In any case, if you can’t go, you can have a look to some more pictures. Step by step we will upload more images to our Flickr and Facebook pages.

We want to take this opportunity to THANK the full team at The Escorxador for their hard work and involvement with proposals like this, the artists themselves: Dhear, Saner, Seher and Sego, for their effort and participation, and Montana Colors, the CCEMX and La Conaculta for their support. Thank you all for making this dream come true.

2011-05-18 : SYSTEM ERROR

If you come looking for more art and/or design proposals, sorry to inform you that we are now focusing on something that affects us all. It's time to be outraged and protest. It's time to support movements such as #acampadasol, #nonosvamos, #spanishrevolution, #yeswecamp, etc. Or to share videos like this one: Camping Sol. And keep moving forward...

Meanwhile we are working on web content, the show Arte Urbano Mexicano, the new Belio, the distribution. You can also visit our online gallery and our video section that have been already updated.

2011-05-17 : #SPANISHREVOLUTION

We continue bombing... Today we bring you a video that resumes part of the action on the past sunday. With it, we want to encourage you to take ACTION. With a little effort from each one, even if it's just sharing a video like this, we show that we are NOT passive citizens, that power does not belong to politicians to do what they please, it belongs to the people. And just like we have given it to them with our votes, we can remove it from them. We want to send our encouragement to those who are actively involved in initiatives such as #acampadasol.

Yesterday we were at the demonstration for a real democracy. Here we brought the new Belio, to protest with it in our hands. That was just a preview... The complete edition of They Live, We Rise will not be available until a few weeks later. But for now you can take a look to the following photo-reportage and get a clue of what we are talking about.

Our sincere congratulations to the organizers of the demonstration and all participants. Change will come even if our politicians don't like it.

Bad news: THE PUBLICATION OF BELIO 033 WILL BE DELAYED.
As you know the current state of the global economy, and particularly in our country (Spain), has forced many companies to close or take special measures. A good friend of us recently said: "when you see so many people afraid of loosing their jobs you can be worried, but certainly when you talk with the owner of a company (whether large or small) you realize how bad things really are..." Belio has never been free of this danger, the economic crisis affects us as everyone... Despite this we continued our work tirelessly. However, in the last month our printer company, the one who has printed the 99% of our publications, has been forced to close and merge with another company. This not only means a delay for us, but creates another set of logistical problems for Belio. This is the main reason why we have decided to postpone the release of Belio 033, which is not yet scheduled.

Good news 2: DIGITAL PREVIEW OF BELIO 033.
We won't leave you with the desire of taking a peek to what we have been working on the last months. We offer to all of you and for FREE the following link, where you can download a compressed file containing all the pages of the new Belio:

BELIO 033: ADRENALINE

The file that you can download is a PDF that you can read and enjoy on your computer. But for this, first, you should unzip the file and to get it you will need the password. Those artists who have been selected and included in this Belio, and all the participants of our project The Infinite Game will receive the password by e.mail.

If you also want to decompress and view the new Belio for free, you have to enter our "game". How? It's easy, send us an email to the following e-mail address: game(at)beliomagazine.com and tell us why do you want to see the new Belio. Apart from this file, more surprises will await you in the other side. Do you play or not?

Extra News extra: NEW SPECIAL EDITION OF BELIO.
If you thought your hands would be left without paper to touch, you are very wrong. By the end of this month we will published a special edition, one of the many projects we have in mind. A new concept of Belio that we will show you in the up-coming days... So, stay tuned!

2011-05-10 : NICOLA LOPEZ: Marañas

Some of you will remember our sold-out Belio 021: Trash, it included a number of interesting artists that work with the concept of waste, garbage and recycling as the basis for their work. One of the most interesting artists from this issue is Nicola López, with her installations on paper, collages and illustrations that represent elements of a networked society: cables, roads, bridges, structures, cranes, etc.. all recreated on paper as huge and chaotic nodes.

Now, in 2011, Nicola has just introduced her new works under the title of Marañas. You can visit the show until May 27 at Arroniz Arte Contemporaneo in Mexico DF. Behind the cut you can see some of the works that form part of this show.

More

The next Thursday, May 19th, it will be the opening of the "Mexican Street Art" exhibition that we organized in collaboration with the Escorxador Contemporary Culture Centre in Elche - Alicante, Spain.

Dhear, Saner, Seher and Sego are the four artists who have been invited to this project. We believe they are some of the most talented mexican street artists and they would have an international renown in the world of art; already proven regarding the many different shows they already have in galleries and museums around the world. Their potential and their artistic value has not yet reached its full splendor, as the Urban Art is still a young artistic branch. Therefore, we hope that this show will mean another step forward in the consolidation of one the most transgressive and contemporary art disciplines, but specially a great step in the career of those invited artists from Mexico.

Saner, Dhear, Seher and Sego's graphic work, as well as an street art installation specially created for the exhibition hall can be visited until July 3rd at La Nau in The Escoxador.

Believe it or not, photography is one of our favorite disciplines in art. Perhaps because of its spontaneity, its wide acceptance among the public or by the great amount artists-photographers that you can find nowadays. No doubt the development of technology has been a boon for its popularity. Due to this abundance and over-production, it is necessary to the work of gallery owners, curators and international fairs in this field to establish a criteria based on a quality selection.

MadridFoto is a newly developed platform, just go for its third edition, which serves as art-fair to display and market the new trends in contemporary art photography. His latest edition was held past weekend in Hall 5 at Ifema (Madrid). We were there to document the fair and those artists that caught our attention and offer the following report to you.

2011-05-03 : 10 YEARS OF AD NOISEAM

At Belio we rarely include music news. We are music lovers, but we don't want to define what kind of music should listen our readers. For the same reason if we decide to make an exception today is because this is a special occasion:

Image based on a painting by Russ Mills, Ad Noiseam collaborator

We want to dedicate today's news on our home to Ad Noiseam, an independent, experimental and risky music label that celebrates its tenth anniversary. We know how important is to achieve 10 years in charge of a project. And that's the reason because its director, Nicolas Chevreux and the bands presented in its catalog deserve all our respect and admiration. Especially in these times, when piracy and new trends like cloud computing increasingly difficult the important work of record labels.

If there would not be labels like Ad Noiseam, many of the music projects that we enjoy and that serve as inspiration for many other creative people, would never reached our ears. A record label is not an intermediary who becomes rich at the expense of its artists, or at least it should not be that way. A record label is like a patron, who seeks, finds, discovers and promotes the work of musical artists. At least this is the model of the labels that we admire.

The 10-year career of Ad Noiseam and their partners has not been easy. It took them all these years to earn that respect, our respect and the one from thousands of fans around the world, that they have undoubtedly achieved thanks to an excellent criteria and selection based on quality that has been improving every year, never stuck or corseted under one style. From the industrial electronics of its first publications to the current range of styles and mutations, mixtures of dubstep, idm, breakcore, experimental jazz, drone music, etc. Perhaps the best term to define the myriad styles that brings together its catalog is the risk and the experimentation since an electronic perspective.

For us there is no better birthday gift than recognizing their work and publish this review on our website like if we would be talking about another art project. We invite our readers to discover and explore their long musical roots, surely the journey is as amazing as any other branch of creation. A perfect complement to the art we usually share at Belio.

And for those who want to join the celebration, the label will be offering an entire tour with their bands in different cities and countries. The first meeting is in Berlin, at the prestigious Berghain club, and will feature DJ Hidden, Enduser, Broken Note, Niveau Zero, Balkansky & Loop Stepwalker, Hecq and Karsten Pflum. Next Friday! Do not miss it. You have more information in the following link.

Matthew Brandt is a photographer that lives and works in Los Angeles, California. His last series of photographs is called “Lakes and Reservoirs”. And we find it really interesting.

First, Brandt made color photographs of some lakes and reservoirs, then he made C-prints of them and lastly he soaked those in the water of the respective lakes and reservoirs that they represent. The results are amazing.

Matthew Brandt has show his works recently in the exhibitions “Eight Emerging Photographers” at Fred Torres Collaborations (New York), “Bed Time for Bonzo” at M+B (Los Angeles), “Genre Studies” at Cardwell Jimmerson Gallery (Culver City) and “Edges of Light” at Arts Benicia. He had his first solo show called “Chocolate, bees, dust, sperm, and sprinkles” at the Cardwell Jimmerson Gallery in Culver City, California, in 2009.
